BMFB: Weekly Sked Aug 17

  • Well 14 TGFC boats searched high and low over the weekend club comp for the little black marlin, but alas only one sailfish was recorded for private Townsville boat Cool Change.  Although the weather really put it on for all, I hear the overnight bottom bashing went off!  Hopefully the marlin are just being a little ellusive and show up in time for the big tournament in September.
  • Meanwhile, on Cool Runnings in Cairns, Jye reports they’ve been catching a lot of mackerel and tuna on their light tackle days out.  Lets see if the little black marlin show up for the Cairns BlueWater 6kg Billfish Tournament which starts with a briefing at Fitzroy Island tomorrow night and start fishing on Thursday.
  • More of the southern based fleet are starting to make their way north now in the leadup to the season which kicks off later next month. I’m in Townsville through the tournament now and will be in Cairns soon after.  Look out for pictures soon.
  • A sneak peak of what you can find in store in the next issue of BlueWater Boats & Sport Fishing magazine (Issue 81 on sale Sept 1) with Bill Boyce taking us on a sailfish world tour and Dr Julian Pepperell clarifying how important the Scaly and Scad are in the marlin food chain.  But also look out for the feature on the big blue boat (Ultimate Lady) which spills the secrets of Capt. Tom’s master fish-finding techniques on the reef in 2009!
