Townsville: First Look

townsville-first-look

The weekend provided one of the first opportunities for Townsville Game Fishing Club boats to head down to Cape Bowling Green.  While most preferred to stay in town and enjoy the third annual Townsville V8 Supercars, club VP Stav Bogiatzis headed down on board the Nicolosi’s 32 Cabo Express Zuri with Sam, Donna, Jack and Alex and had a good look around despite the pretty ordinary weather.  Its still early in the season and Stav says the bait hasn’t really turned up yet although they did raise two sails and tag one (pictured).  Thanks Stav for the report and photo.

An update on the format of this year’s Townsville Billfish Challenge:

Under and Over 8m categories still apply.  Teams will be able to fish both light and heavy tackle.

Light tackle is 6kg only
Teams must fish within the light tackle boundary. This is all of chart 1 (Palms, Bowling Green, Inner reefs.) A line on chart 2 will show Heavy tackle boundary. All billfish, blacks and sails are 1000 points.

Heavy tackle – Over 6kg
Teams must fish in the HT boundary.  All marlin (black & blue) are 1000 points. Sails caught on line above 6kg are 500 points. However if caught on 6kg out on the outer reefs – 1000 points.

I’m on a week’s vacay, fishing of course – see you next week when I get back!
