Coffs & Brissy Marlin

Following up from Vic Levett’s top days fishing of northern NSW last week, six boats of the Solitary Island Game Fishing Club braved somewhat marginal conditions off Coffs Harbour on Saturday for the second last pointscore of the season. Four boats encountered blues, although none stayed connected long enough to reach the tag pole, and an ugly southerly sent most scurrying for home by lunchtime.

Sunday was somewhat better, with Black and Blue and Wicked Weasel — the only boats in Australia without Mother’s Day responsibilities it seems — fishing south for a bite each. Weasel’s fish was in the heavyweight class, pounced on the long corner lure, jumped, landed on the long rigger line, broke that, then shook the hook and disappeared. Upon winding the long corner lure back in, the crew found the lost lure neatly hooked over the leader! As they say in game fishing, it’s better to be lucky than good!

Also a report from Capt. Ken Brown on Megumi fishing out of Brisbane who converted a 2-250lb striped marlin off Point Lookout for angler Glen Williams – his first marlin.
