Slower but big fish on the reef

Tougher fishing over the last few days overall with a few lucky enough to enjoy big fish encounters.

Capt. Tim Richardson’s Tradition had the pick of the day yesterday with a two from three including a nice fish that Tim put at 900lbs (pictured above).

Capt. Brett Goetze on Amokura tells me that they have been getting a couple of bites a day over the past few days and went one from two on Tuesday – mostly fish from 250-500lbs.

I also heard from Capt. Ash Matthews on Reel Teaser who likewise reports tough fishing over the past few days but yesterday went 2 from 3 at 450 and 550lbs for Alex Vega from Sydney (photo below).

On KEKOA with Capt. Luke Fallon, we finished up our last trip with a fish for Cody, followed up with another for Sami – both their first Aussie black marlins and hopefully not their last.  Back out on the reef now with Ed and Bob from San Diego.

And some interesting news from Townsville. Gary Ryan tells me that from Horseshoe Bay last night where they spent the night before heading down for the Whitsunday Tourney, he heard from Townsville boat Reel Crazy who had been fishing out at Myrmidon. Gary relayed that they had a real big fish on that unfortunately they lost when they chair pulled out of the deck. A little more investigation and Leigh O’Brien tells me they fought the fish for about 3 and a half hours before unfortunately the bolts gave way.
