While Fraser fired on blue marlin on Saturday, Peak Sport Fishing’s Eddy Lawler and crew are continuing to stamp Exmouth in WA’s spot on the world map with another fantastic day’s fishing. While he’s on the east coast enjoying our mild winter Murray Teasdale filled me in on the achievement with the team notching up a ‘super slam’ for their novice billfishing anglers on Saturday.

The super slam was made up of 2 x striped marlin, 1 x blue marlin (about 300lbs on 15kg spin rod), 1 x black marlin and 1 x sailfsh to finish it off!!

To top it off, these were just some of 10 T&R billfish in the two days fishing for newbies (now addicts) Scott and Leonie.

Huge congrats to all on a fantastic achievement!

Fraser

Well after a top start, it went down-hill after that, but on account of the weather more than anything. Saturday was un-fishable but the Reel Action team went 1-1-1 striped marlin on the Sunday (don’t forget the reef fishing!) to round off another great Fraser Sunshine Coast GFC weekend.

North Queensland

Finally a break in the weather saw a fleet of about 10 Townsville GFC club boats hit the waters off Cape Bowling Green on the weekend. Renee tells me that the bait schools are the best they’ve been all year.

Overall 6 sails were tagged – ranging from 10kg to 40kg as well as 3 blacks tagged – from 10kg to 30kg There were also plenty more raised and hooked.

Just what we want to hear coming into light tackle season proper.

I also heard of one tagged by a local charter boat behind Dunk. Cairns weather didn’t prove as cooperative but hopefully more reports to come in.  Capt. Darren “Biggles” Haydon’s Bounty Hunter fished Saturday for one little black from one bite and the trip before getting one sail from one bite. Hopefully that’s the start of them coming back on up here too.
