Congratulations to everyone who competed in the 50th Anniversary Cairns Black Marlin Tournament and celebrations over the past week as we commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the first 1000lb black marlin caught off Cairns. What a great week its been culminating in the Presentation Gala and Hall of Fame Inductions at the Cairns Convention Centre last night.
Of course biggest congratulations must go to Capt. Corey Hard, owner Shane Sipthorp and team on Askari for taking out the win with 4 tags from the Eggins and Axisa team on Athaldo who were runners up on countback with 3 tags. Askari‘s Mitch Liddell took out Champion Male and Champion Overall Angler (the Jack Erskine Memorial) for his 4 tags and the Godfather’s Lesly Longdon took home Champion Female on countback being the first lady on the board. The dailies were won by Calypso, Askari, Cookie and Calypso again for the dailies.
Congratulations also to the 6 very worthy 2016 Inductees into the Cairns Game Fishing Hall of Fame – Peter Bristow, Dr. Dave Curnock, Bob Lowe, Pat Gay, Billy Fairbairn and Vince Vlassoff.
A clip from last nights event that is well worth a share. Colin Pett, our wonderful video editor from Mod Marketing put this timelapse together of the boats returning to port after cease fishing on the final day. Another testament to our fleet – some awesome boats and boat driving skills on show!
Photo at top: Shared yesterday on the social channels the montage of Capt. Bill Billson/Viking, angler Chase Hooper (who took home the Champion International Angler gong)’s fish which was the only grander black marlin of the tournament.
I hope everyone enjoyed the evening as much as we did. See you at the 60th lol!
