Although the big party (ahem, I mean presentation) is not being held until Friday, the winners of the Marks Point Marina & Simrad Big Fish Bonanza have been announced (preliminary until the presentation).
Once again the tournament was a huge success SeaBaby IV, Freedom and Rack Em Up all battling it out for a super tight finish – but an extra fish on the last day for SeaBaby IV saw them take home the win with 5 black marlin and a mahi mahi.
The Capture Division was also a close battle with only 2 sharks being weighed both mako’s one 260kg the other 290 kg giving Xcellerate the win over new and upcoming boat Reel Crazy.
Over 250 anglers competed on 64 registered boats. An unlucky Junior aboard Awatea got spooled on 10kg in an experience not fogotton while SEAKA weighed in a nice 153kg blue marlin caught on a live bait in 90fa.
The Presentation night will be held February 10 from 6:30pm at Swansea RSL.
On a personal note, congrats to Claire on her big win – Champion Female T&R :-)
The winners are:
Sea Baby IV T/R Champion Boat
Xcellerate Capture Champion boat
Rack Em Up t/r Champion boat under 8m
Reel Crazy Capture Champion Boat under 8m
Are things hotting up at Port? This is the time of year when many of the fleet relocate to port for the tournament season so I hope reports will be more frequent from here on in.
Matthew O’Brien tells me that it’s starting to look pretty good, the small blacks have started turning it on in close. On Anticipation (photo top) they went 2-2-2 on Saturday and 2-2-1 on Monday in the trailer boat, both only half days. Matthew says that the water was 23.5, and the bait was in scattered patches but looked okay and is looking forward to a good season inshore!
