Capt. Craig “Sparra” Denham’s Hot Shot fought another sea monster that he put at well over a grand yesterday fighting the fish for over 4 hrs, multiple times on the leader before unfortunately losing her when a smaller male fish jumped through the line (sounds familiar!!) They jumped two more off later in the day and released a smaller one the day before on a day that was overall a bit more quiet on the reef.

If you’re spending time in Cooktown this year during the marlin season, check out the information on scenic and helifishing at bottom of this report from Bungie Helicopters!

Sunshine Coast Shootout

The 2017 SCGFC Spring Shootout has been run and won with congratulations to the team on Site Office for taking out the win. Club President Tony Cross tells me that 27 boats, 12 juniors and 78 senior anglers took part in this year’s Shootout and whilst Day 1’s weather was great, Day 2 left a bit to be desired. Fishing was slow but everyone had a fantastic time which is true testament to the comradery involved as visiting boats came from Redcliffe GFC, Newport GFC, Moreton Bay GFC, Gold Coast GFC and Mooloolaba GFC.

Official Results

Gold Coast

And good fishing again on the Gold Coast too in the leadup to the GCGFC Shootout October 13/14.  Capt. Glanville Heydenrych’s Mufasa did their first day marlin fishing for the season Wednesday and finished up with 3 from 3 blue marlin. A great way to start the season and even better for the 12 year old angler, Murdock. Glanville said that Murdock killed it in the chair on the 130s and he is looking forward to seeing him get stuck into some bugger fish in the future!
