Cairns to Fraser Island

Cairns continues to be hot (if you’re the lucky boat) and cold (if you’re not) although once again some nice fish being caught. 2017 certainly has been a year of big fish!

Capt. Daniel Klein on Onsite tells me they caught a couple of small ones on this last trip as well as one about 600lbs and also fought a real big one on a lure which they eventually broke leader on.

Capt. Tim Richardson’s Tradition also released a black yesterday for Wayne from the Bahamas.

The Hervey Bay Tournament starts with the briefing today and fishing tomorrow. There are 40 boats competing I hear and hopefully they will all enjoy the good fishing that continues both with the little black marlin both on the inside towards Rooney’s Point as well as out the front of the bar. On KEKOA with Capt. Luke Fallon we’ve been record fishing with light tackle specialist Gary Carter since the weekend. On Monday Gary caught a pending Australian Men’s Record 14.5kg black marlin on 1kg line class.

The last two days we have fished wider for blues and bigger blacks and raised 6 on Tuesday and 7 yesterday breaking the light line on a couple.

Special K also pre-fished the tournament yesterday on the little blacks in the morning and the blues in the afternoon and released a nicer blue as well. Brad was up here last week on a Fraser “Kids Trip” with the youngsters all wracking up the numbers on both the blacks (8) as well as a blue.
