Cairns: Capt. Corey Hard on Askari sends a late report for his last trip where fishing slowed down for them and they only managed 3 small ones from 5 over 5 days. Capt. Tim Richardson on Tradition went out wide to Holmes Reef. Tim said while they missed it by a day or two, they did catch a blue marlin on way back in.
Brenton Fetterplace who fished with Jay Edwards on Absolute for the heavy season in Cairns just topped his season off with an epic 9 day popping and jigging trip out at Cato reef on Big Cat Reality – formally the “Coral Seatel” a purpose built mothership in the 70s for the cairns fleet before lizard island was developed. Brenton also reports they went one from one on an est 500lb blue marlin for angler Drew Kelly in the Cato trench off the back of Big Cat, the 77′ mother ship of James McVeigh while steaming home. Very cool given the boats history and its new lease on life!
And back off Fraser for their last day of this trip on Capt. Bobby Jones’ Merlin, Ross reports 2 from 5 yesterday and missed another bigger blue. The final trip report was 19 from 29 bites in 6 days – 1 black, 2 stripeys and 16 blues. Great fishing!
