Black marlin inshore – big blue marlin offshore. That’s the report from Port Stephens on the weekend.

A few marlin fishing boats were getting amongst them on the weekend including Flying Fisher inshore who tagged 4 on Saturday and 3 yesterday – all in the 100lb to 200lb range on 30lb tackle, in 7 fathoms. But the lure of the bigger blues is taking them offshore today.  Capt. Darren Lewis on Anarchy caught a blue marlin that he put at 500lbs on Saturday, while Capt. Brad Curtis on Ningaloo raised one that he put at 700lbs yesterday.

Capt. Adam Jordan on Iona 2 has been raising a few, with 2 from 3 on the stripes on Saturday and 1 from 2 on Sunday.

And Andy on Fritto 1 sent me a PS report from their weekend with some tough fish on the light tackle keeping Andy busy on the rod.  Andy tells me they went 6-4-1 on Saturday with a 90kg stripey on a dead bonito.  He followed up to tag an estimated 120kg black marlin on 15 kg on Sunday morning before spending 3 and a half hours later in the afternoon and into the darkness on a second fish estimated at 140kg on 10kg line to finish with a 4-3-2 for Sunday’s effort.
