Gold Coast solo slam

Congrats to Grant Thomson for his sword which marked his final species of Aussie billfish fishing SOLO in Gold Coast water.

Grant says it was a lucky catch for him fishing for snapper on the 36s this month.

Owning Lucky Strike charters for about 10 years while living overseas, many amazing trips fishing with Capt. Ross McCubbin further developed his the love of the sport. So after selling his business, moving home and purchasing Cjig for the charters and wanting to focus on catching marlin solo, he invested in a Kevla Cat.

He started out with the little blacks at Spot X with his best day going 8 from 9 (solo).  He also managed a few sails off the pin bar.

It took a few more years to catch the solo blue out wide have many long battles that ended in failure. He then started targeting stripe marlin down on the Tweed Canyons as well picking up a few spear fish in the same area along the way.

So the last species left was the broadbill and having tried off Cape Moreton and Fraser Island with no luck, was lucky enough to finally get one in local waters.

Go the Goldy! Fantastic effort Grant, well done!
