It’s been a hard week to get online! And so if you are able, I highly encourage you to follow the blog on Instagram or Facebook as I’ve been able to upload quick photo reports there when loading the website has been impossible!

Cairns updates

Fishing is still quite tough although there have been patches of great action among the fleet. This week saw Capt. Daniel Klein’s charge Cookie from Port Hacking GFC have a blinder with Ellie Offord go 4 from 6 on Wednesday and plugging away a fish a day since. A shot I took of Ellie in action with Dean Butler on the leader at top!

Capt. Brent James Aukai also started their last charter off on a high with a fish that Brent put at 900lbs on the first morning of the first day.

I also got the shot below a fish for Capt. Chris “Sharky” Miles Katana on Thursday, one from two for the day.

Weipa Billfish Tournament

While the tournament fishing was not as hot as it has been, 49 anglers in 15 boats ranging in size from 4.5m to 12.2m accounted for 28 sailfish and 2 black marlin tagged from 63 bites.  The winner was the team on Happy Days (Tege Witcher, Ben Bright, Kas Nolan, Theona Down) with 5 sails.

Montebello Islands, WA

Good fishing continues in the west for the Blue Lightning team with another 8 sails added to their season tally Wednesday. Leah reports that wahoo and yellow fin tuna were also in the mix and even a whale shark came to say hi!
