Innisfail Billfish Tournament Results

This year 71 anglers (including 15 juniors) on 21 boats competed and the weather was perfect.  (Besides the fishing, competitors also competed in the fish throwing and guess the fish weight comps!)

Friday Night was the launch of the Innisfail Game Fishing Club book ( A history of the Innisfail Game Fishing Club) with Duncan Patterson and some very special guests, Frank Woodnutt and Morrie Spina. The sailpass was held on the Saturday with photos taken by Richard Curzon from the Innisfail Camera Club.

As for the fishing:
Day 1. 4 black marlin tags and 28 game fished weighed
Day 2. 6 black marlin tags and 13 game fish weighed
Day 3. 2 black marlin tags and 18 game fish weighed

Congratulations to the team on Capt. Chris “Sharky” Miles’ Levante who pipped Capt. Corey Hard’s Askari to take out the Champion Boat award with a black marlin in the final 20 minutes. Levante finished with 4 tags from Askari with 3 with Askari’s angler Darren Halpin also taking out the Champion Angler Award. Capt. Laurie Wright lead the Poulter family’s Think Big to the Champion Female Angler award with a Spanish mackerel for Sharon. And the Champion Male Junior went to Darcy Hallam on Reel Nice and Champion Junior Female Angler went to Georgia Bolton on Jimmy.

In the under 7.5m division, Champion Team was Jimmy with Reel Nice just behind to take Runners Up.

IGFC President Ben Heath and committee member Anthony Genocchio were fishing on board Levante with Sharky and they were very happy winners after 11 years of trying!

And thank you to Annette for sending on the results!

With the big fish showing up now much of the attention is switching in North Queensland from light to heavy tackle. But there were still a few light tackle fish released off Cairns.  KEKOA and Black Label both released a small black off Fitzroy while Bounty Hunter released a black and a sail.

And on Sunday, Capt. Brad Craft’s Castille also had a last light tackle hit going 2 from 4 on the blacks and 0-1 on sails.
