Final Day Lizard Island, One Day Comp

The final day of the Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic was held in conjunction yesterday with a ‘One Day’ Comp hosted by the Cairns Professional Game Fishing Club. While the fishing was not especially hot (only 3 tags for the Lizard Island fleet), it was a fun day of fishing.

Pro-fish-ent added the first fish of the day just 10 minutes into fishing and registered for both comps it was enough to give them the LI daily as well as the champions prizemoney for the one day comp.

In the Lizard Island fleet, tags were also added by Amokura and Moana III with the event being taken out by Capt. Casey Dent’s Zulu who maintained their lead through the final day with 13 tags for the week. Second place was Amokura with 12 tags and third place to Absolute with 11 tags.

In the one day comp, the second fish of the day went to Capt. Corey Hard’s Askari and third to Capt. Daniel Klein’s Onsite which also gave them second and third respectively.

Capt. Ashley Matthew’s Reel Easy was back in Cooktown overnight on changeover with a catchup report from his last trip on the water with the boys from Airlie beach. Ashley reports plenty of bites from mainly small fish with Matty Ahern getting a 200 and 300lber on Day 2. They also missed that bite from a beauty right at the death. Capt. Tim Richardson’s Tradition also tagged one yesterday for Curtis.

On Day 3 they got just the one bite and it was worth waiting for. Once again Matty Ahern the lucky angler fighting it for over an hour prior to release that Ash put at 900lbs!

Gold Coast bite

The Gold Coast is biting ahead of the Blue Marlin Classic next week!  Ross McCubbin on Lucky Strike reports a double header first up yesterday morning with a fish each to Ryan Goding, who did a great job stand up with a bent butt 130, and Dave McCallum in the chair ending with a 3-2-2 for the day.

And Team Garmin’s young Ryan Thomsen fought a blue for 2.5 hours on 37kg which is a pending Queensland record 145.9kg as part of their 5-4-2 for the day.

Exmouth Sails

We’ve heard all about the Montebello Island sails this season but they’ve been getting quite a few in Exmouth as well. Capt. Josh Bruynzeel on On Strike reports 49 sails in the last 8 days with every single fish sight cast to!  Chloe in these pics accounted for 15 sails herself over 4 of those days!
