Tournament pre-fishing HOT

The countdown to this weekend’s Garmin Gold Coast Light Tackle Masters is on and more good fishing has been reported in leadup (see previous reports). Just yesterday Capt. Ross McCubbin’s Lucky Strike added another two blacks yesterday with a lunchtime finish.

They are also catching a few blues still out wide.

And fishing Jervis Bay and Ulladulla last week Chloe and Tom Laurence with Michael and Hayley Bonnici and crew enjoyed the great weather coinciding with their time off over Xmas to smash the marlin. Chloe tells me their overall stats were 19 fish from 29 bites over 6 days fishing. They also raised a handful of other fish that didn’t eat.

While the fish were mainly stripes, there were a few solid black marlin in the mix as well. The stripes were a mix of sizes – from 40kg to 100kg plus.

Chloe said they had a few big days as well as a few slower days of 2 and 1 fish. On some days the fish were super aggressive and on other days the bites were very doughy and that on average boats are seeing 1 or 2 fish a day. Great fishing for early January and shaping up nicely for for the upcoming Batemans Bay Tollgate Classic (18-20 Jan) and the Jess Sams Ulladulla Open (1-3 Feb).
