Sails, sails, sails

sails-sails-sails

Hot sailfishing continues in Weipa and WA! Read the previous report for the start of the most recent run which continues in both Weipa, QLD and the Montebello Islands, WA.

Weipa

While the big southerly has put paid to any more fishing this weekend, many club members were able to join in on the action in the last couple of days with the club estimating close to 100 sails and a couple of marlin were tagged in the last 4 days alone!

On Friday Ben and Fifi on Last Cast added another 11 sails with Darryl French adding another 10 to his solo tally.  Among the 8 or so club boats fishing there were also a couple of marlin seen with one tagged.

On Saturday the Last Cast team had to sit out the day on dry land with other committments but I’m told it was a morning bite before the southerly came through. New club member Scott Gorman with Jason Boor tagged 9. Gav and Andrea on Happy Hours tagged 7 by 11:45am. Tegan Witcher who has also been kicking goals solo this season joined some friends on their boat and caught friend Jess Hopkins, 7 months pregnant (!) her first sail going 3-2-2.  All in all 11 boats were out and no doubt the full numbers will be made clear in the next few days.

Thanks to Ben again for the updates!

Montebello Islands, WA

While the Montes are probably best known for the amazing array of sport and gamefish, if you’re willing to tear yourself away from the reef fishing and dedicate the time on the sails the numbers are outstanding as Blue Lightning have shown in the past with a best day of 39 sails and adding 37 sails and 2 marlin to their season tally this week.

This week Exmouth’s Peak Sportfishing also completed their first live aboard trips in conjunction with Monster Sport Fishing Adventures and put the time in on the sails notching up 87 in 4.5 days of fishing with daily tallies of 8, 16, 20 (including 1 on fly), 32 and 11~~!  All fish caught tease and switch!
