Cairns, going home, Groote Island

Very very quiet day on the edge yesterday in absolutely gamour weather conditions. The only fish I heard of in the fleet at all was a double header for Capt. Ross Finlayson on Top Shot. Capt. Damian Collette’s Saltaire also jumped off a nice one which would have been cream on the cake from his previous day (Wednesday) which was a great day on the water. Catching up Damian tells me that he had  fished Craig Watson from Blue Dog Lures for 5 days, and went 4 from 5 for the trip.  The last day they fished wide off the bottom of the Bank and caught a 900lb black for Fredrick Solda from Venice, and Craig Watson caught one he put a t 1000 both were caught on Blue Dog XL Cuban lures.

After a successful season in Cairns, Capt. Daniel Klein’s charge Cookie is making its was home to Port Hacking and had a good day off the top of Fraser yesterday. Daniel reports that they raised 8, had 6 bites and caught 3 – a double header black and blue, as well as a 400lb blue!

Groote Island

A relay via Heidi (thanks Heidi) for Jason who is out of range with yesterday’s report. With 8 boats fishing more fish encountered with 29 raised, 17 hooked and 11 tagged including 4 marlin with the first fish for the day a small model (90-100lb) caught by 9 year old Jayden Lergessner. Congrats Jayden! Hopefully this is a good sign for things to come over the last 3 days of the comp!
