Capt. Daniel McCarthy on Moana III only had the one bite yesterday but it was the fish that every angler hopes for releasing!

Within the first half hour of fishing on their first day of heavy tackle, with a fish that Capt. Dan put at over 1000lbs.  Photo at and below.

And otherwise on the reef a report from Capt. Craig “Sparra” Denhim’s Hot Shot who 3 from 4 on smaller fish the biggest 350lbs.  And Capt. Corey Hard’s Askari who caught 5 in the last 4 days heavy tackle, the biggest being 600lbs.

Weipa Billfish Tournament

The fishing was off to a quick start with the shotgun start at 7am the first sail went to Dean Butler at 8:47.  But unfortunately the fishing has slowed considerably from the big numbers club boats were recording last month.  With 15 teams fishing, unofficially Ben Bright’s Last Cast is in the lead after Day 1 with 2 sails from other boats on 1 tag each Tag Team, Line Burner, Great Northern and Get N Any all on 1 each. All the tags were sails.   Good luck for every one on Day 2 today! Thanks to Ben for keeping us up-to-date!
